Pedestrians ALWAYS have the right away right?

for exaple, today iwas riding my bike around. the red hand turned into a white guy walking.so, i crossed the street, then all of the sudden this car turned and stoped as i was right in front of him, he looked at me with some stupid angry face, i pedaled past him, then he started honking his horn like the hick he probably was. wasnt i granted the right of way, right?? there are so many instances like this. not to mention all the cars that stop past the stop sign and prevent me from crosing the corner because their damn car is blocking my way.
