What would posses someone to even think this when they just had a miscarriage? What is wrong with some people?

Well, obviously that woman has mental health issues and substance abuse problems. Would you really expect her to be devastated by the fact she miscarried a child that she would likey have damaged before it was even born followed by a life time of neglect and abuse? I for one am glad to hear that she was honest rather than crying and playing the " Oh poor me, my heart is broken, why me? I would have been a great mother!" BS that so many of these drug addicted, selfish women do? I could tell you way more upsetting stories about women who went to term (while using) and were allowed to keep their babies. Those situations were truely sad and at least one ends with the death of a 4 week old little girl.
