Corrupt file helpppppp!!!!!!!!!!?

hi I have a big problem, so my computer keeps getting these annoying pop ups from the windows tool bar which say saying this file or directory C:/program files/common filies/syymantec shared/EENGINE/EPERSIST.DAY is corrupt and unreadable please run the chkdsk utility. what does this meannnnn please please help !!!!!! :(
